Spain is one of the countries hardest hit by the COVID 19 pandemic. High infection and fatality rates have brought the health care system to the brink of collapse. Similarly challenging, Spain’s economy has been greatly suffering from the 2008/9 Great Recession and the global pandemic has accentuated the severe economic crisis and deepening social inequality in the country. Dr. Pablo Ouziel is available for interviews on the on the current COVID 19 pandemic in Spain and the deep crisis the country is currently facing, living through it personally, while at his home in Catalonia. Dr. Ouziel questions the way in which Spanish authorities are responding to the crisis and is concerned about the authoritarian tendencies that surface in this response.

Dr. Pablo Ouziel is the president of the Young Researchers Network of the European Community Studies Association Canada (ECSA-C YRN) and fellow at the Cedar Trees Institute at the Centre for Global Studies (UVic).  Listen to his radio interviews: CBC radio interview "On the Island", CFAx radio interview  and with UVIc's Gorilla Radio station
